Ever wonder which among the world's top college and university brands have reputations we trust the most in 2015? Eight of the ten most trusted colleges and universities in the world are in the United States.

Rankings have been published as Times Higher Education World University, Reputation and Trust Rankings 2015. Only universities in the top 50 have been ranked. Those from 50-100 are ranked in groups of 10.

In addition, the Times Higher Education World University, Mission Performance and Trust Rankings 2014-2015 list the "best global universities and are the only international university performance tables to judge world class universities across all of their core missions - teaching, research, knowledge transfer and international outlook."

Times Higher Education best global universities ranked highest across "13 carefully calibrated performance indicators to provide the most comprehensive and balanced comparisons available, which are trusted by students, academics, university leaders, industry and governments."

US News & World Report Best Global Universities, Research Performance and Reputation Rankings 2015 ranked 500 global institutions from the U.S. and nearly 50 other countries based on "10 indicators that measure their academic research performance and their global and regional reputations."

US News & World Report Best Global Universities, Research Performance and Reputation Rankings 2016 ranked 500 world institutions from the U.S. and nearly 60 other countries based on "12 indicators that measure their academic research performance and their global and regional reputations."

Strategic Knowledge Leadership Among the World's Best Colleges and Universities

Strategic competitive positioning in academic and research capacity building and knowledge production and depositories among the world's top-ranked colleges and universities stack up along four primary fronts:

  1. Brokerage creates knowledge, including identifying the relative difference that distinguishes an institution and trading on it in the global marketplace;
  2. Cohesion delivers knowledge, involving establishing an academic environment that attracts and retains extraordinary faculty united with a continuous supply of exceptional students;
  3. Branding, reputation, and trust transfers knowledge, allowing a climate of innovation to flow freely throughout the physical and online learning spaces and diverse culture of the university in the advancement of a general liberal education for the benefit of agriculture, industry, commerce, and The Arts;
  4. Partnerships sustain knowledge, allowing strategic contracts of alliances, joint-ventures, acquisitions, warrants, options, and philanthropic giving to feed both organic and inorganic investments and growth of the university and its endowment steadily and soundly through perpetuity.

Interestingly, British university brands (shown below in blue) have vaulted up in world reputation and trust rankings, according to the latest rankings published by Times Higher Education. Oxford and Cambridge, known collectively in England as "Oxbridge", have passed highly-branded and trusted United States universities reaching as high as the top three spots right underneath Harvard. "Oxbridge" each rose two places to reach second and third place, respectively, topping the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and Stanford University.

In fact, Times Higher Education list 12 United Kingdom university brands inside its top 100, up from 10 in 2014, now including the universities of Durham and Warwick.

An interesting contrast highlighted herein is the US News & World Report 2015 Best Global Universities rankings, based on 10 indicators of academic research performance and reputation, "Oxbridge" each ranked at fifth and sixth place, respectively, behind top-ranked Harvard University, second-place Massachusetts Institute of Technology, third-place University of California, Berkeley, and fourth-place Stanford University.
